Robert Harper worked for Cla-Val in his early years, where he gained experience in flow control systems. While working with Cla-Val, which is known throughout the world as producing the world’s highest quality automatic control valves, Bob became well-known for his abilities of understanding flow control systems, and the importance of automatic control values.
Bob formed Harper International in 1974 and Hip Bretz joined in 1980. They were exclusive sales representative for Cla-Val as well as other premier manufacturers of fluid control components. As the company grew, so did the search for superior employees. In 1990, Bob and Hip meet Thomas Kuehnel and persuaded Tom to move to Connecticut and join Harper International. Tom’s vast knowledge and experience with highly competitive sales of fluid control systems made for a perfect match. Tom flourished with Harper International, becoming well educated in the field. With a keen understanding of flow control systems and system designs for reliability, Tom soon became requested by engineering firms and system owners throughout New York City, Long Island, Connecticut, New Jersey and beyond. After many years of considering retirement, Bob knew who would be knowledgeable enough to continue his legacy. He approached Tom who was honored to become a partner of Harper International. Tom Kuehnel became president of Harper International in 1995, and Fred Haines was designated as CFO. Bob Harper fully retired in 1996. As the company continued to grow, each partner continued to specialize in different areas of the water industry. Tom’s main focus along with his team at Harper International was high rise commercial building’s plumbing designs and municipal utility control valve systems throughout New York City, Long Island, New Jersey and Connecticut.
After many successful years as president of Harper International, Tom’s vision for growth, success and the admiration for Bob Harper, lead Tom and Deborah Kuehnel to form Harper Control Solutions, Inc. Tom’s knowledge, abilities and attention to customer satisfaction lead the way to one of the most well respected companies to call when a customer needs help with fluid control systems. Deborah’s strengths balance this team with her extensive knowledge and vast experience in marketing, sales and customer relations. She continues Harper’s legacy with enthusiasm. With over 100 years of experience, Harper Control Solutions, Inc. is proud of the fact that they are a family owned company that focuses on areas including water treatment, flow control valves, and automated control systems, as well as on-site training and equipment maintenance programs.
